Depending on the geography of your property, you will probably have to use either a fixed or floating dock. Depending on your location, the TVA will issue an 1,800 square foot permit or a 1,000 square foot permit for your dock. Occasionally exceptions are made for permitting of larger docks. TVA will consider total water usage for this size rating and not actual decking square footage. For example, if your dock is 40 x 40 with two boat slips, you have a 1,600 square foot dock. Furthermore, if you have a C shaped walkway 8 feet wide with 40 foot fingers, you also have a 1,600 square foot dock.
